Do NOT go up the hill the summer hiking trail at left goes to Burstall Pass which is Class 2 Avalanche Terrain. Burstall Pass and all of Kananaskis backcountry has become very busy over the past few years with the sport of backcountry skiing. Follow the orange snowshoe markers around the loop past Hogarth Lakes.

The Hogarth Lakes Loop shares a trailhead with Burstall Pass which is signed on the Smith-DorrienSpray Lakes Road. Allow 2 to 2 ½ hours to the pass including a snack break along the way. The trail is wide for the first 3 plus km and you can cycle this if you wish passing marshy Burstall Lakes on the wayAt about 4 km you cross Burstall Creek on a small footbridge entering the wide gravel flats immediately see photos.

The Burstall Pass parking area is well marked on your right. There are two lakes. The creekbed leads moderately steeply to a draw.

From Calgary take Highway 1 to Highway 40 South to Kananaskis Lakes road and turn right to Smith-DorianSpray Lakes road.
